Product Review: Q-Link Energy Balancing Necklace

The Q-Link necklace is touted to be an object that helps to balance personal energy and/or "biofield" and counter the negative effects of electromagnetic fields that we are exposed to on a daily basis.  I'm not going to go into their entire advertising schpeel, the link provided above will take you to their web page so you can check it out yourself.

I purchased one of these a few years ago even after reading the far-fetched claims for it, and the over-the-top bashing of it, and the incredibly outrageous price of it.  I was curious.

Bad Science did an in-depth debunking of the product.  Bashed it to smitherines (literally).  They put it in the category of snake oil at best and at worst one of the biggest consumer cons since cons began.  You can read their opinion on the link provided as well.

It appears to be made of plastic, with some copper coiled underneath a lucite or acrylic resin.  Now, I understand how copper conducts electricity, so there could be some merit in this.  I absorb and retain electricity like nobody's business and am continually being shocked by inert objects.  I often use a grounding wire, which is simply a thin copper wire that is wound around the grounding portion of an electrical outlet.  I wind it around my big toe and relax for a bit.  My toes will twitch and sometimes it aches clear up my leg.  It is returning the excess electricity in my body to the ground, via the wire.  Lots of people use these. So could this be that much different?

I also have a ceramic "ladybug" that cost me a pretty penny (I think about $100) that is an electromagnetic field absorber that stays near my computer.  Many pros and cons on that product too. (mine looks like a lady bug, some of the newer models don't...but you can read about them on the link provided.).  There is a lot we don't know or understand about electromagnetic fields and their impact on the human body.  And some people are simply more sensitive to those impacts than others.  There is no way to know if this product does or doesn't work either.

So anyway, I bought the Q-Link and for the first month or more, I wore it without fail...all day, all night, in the shower, everywhere.  I changed the crappy, cheap, rough black cord it came with for a stainless steel chain I took from another necklace.  Mine, my actual living and breathing one, is pictured here.  It looks exactly like the one their website is calling the New model.  Go figure.  Their advertising says something to the effect that the more you wear it, the more it imprints with your energy baseline and the better it will work. Hmmm, I don't know about that.

OK, so I am of two minds about it.  I think that they make some HUGE generalizations that they cannot substantiate.  And my biggest issue is that they charge $109 for the most inexpensive version and more than $800 for the gold version.  That's the most suspicious part of it for me.  There is maybe $2 of material in this unit.  So that is an extreme rip-off that I don't know how they can justify...even it if works exactly like they say it does.

On the other hand, the Bad Science guys reject it outright simply because they can't prove that it works, and can't understand how it could work, so to them, it doesn't work.  We don't truly understand how crystals work and yet, we use them in electronic devices all the time...but if a healer uses a crystal, they're a whacky-witch-charlatan.  We can't have it both ways.  You can't totally discount something simply because studies don't prove it, or because you don't understand it.

I have no idea how energy healing works but it does.  So I want to be open minded about this necklace. If people believe that it works, who gives a crap if it is only from a "placebo effect"?  Positive result is all in the eye of the beholder.  I'm all for placebo effect.  And I don't know that this object does or does not work. My biggest beef is the price.

What I can say is, that I have noticed no appreciable or significant positive impact or change from wearing it.  And yet, I will still, from time to time, pull it back out and begin wearing it again.  Placebo effect?  I don't care.  For me, personally, it may be that the object reminds me to be more in touch with the signals my body and my surroundings are giving me, and to take better care of myself.  Does a Talisman work because it has powers or does it work because we believe it works?  I leave that debate to others.  I don't care.  If it works for some people, it is real for them.

I'm leaning towards that it does not seem to offer me, personally, any appreciable results, but I am still willing to consider that it may have benefit to me or to others.  The price?  Criminal.  Absolutely criminal.  $10 is a fantastic profit on the materials they have invested in it.  It shouldn't cost 10x that.  Looking on Amazon, I do see an older model that you can purchase for $40.  That's a bit better...still too much but that's where I would start if you wanted one.  The link to purchase it or the "ladybug" (called the zero energy field EMF absorbing, bla bla bla..") is below.  If you've used either of these products, I would love to hear from you about your experience.
