DVD Review: Cirque Du Soleil Nouvelle Experience

Little by little, we've been renting Cirque Du Soleil videos from Netflix.  As we watch this unique Circus style stage show, I will review each production.

Nouvelle Experience is the fourth touring stage production by Cirque Du Soleil which toured between 1990 and 1993.  I'm a dork...I don't know my French.  I think it translates into New or Novel Experience.  Apparently it doesn't have a story theme...or at least not that Wikipedia states.  We sure couldn't figure out a story theme from it but as always, there is something new in every show and it's spellbinding.

I think my favorite stand out acts were the contortionists, the Chinese umbrella balancing, the chair balancing act and the audience participation segment.  I'll share the latter link below.  In it, without speaking, a troupe member instructs three audience members in how to act out their parts for a silent movie.  It really made me laugh.

  1. Love the skit! It's interesting how they pull people from the audience to play along, and these guys on your video were great players. The Cirque we recently saw had a similar skit, as well as a magic act, where they pulled a gal from the audience. We strongly suspect that she was planted there by the company ... she was too good of a magician. However, what was really funny was when the spotlight suddenly shined in the audience as a woman's seat was raised about 4 feet in the air. The older lady was clearly surprised and was laughing hysterically. Good times.
